Something that I've always believed is that perception is reality. No matter what you believe in your heart, in your mind, what others believe determines how you are treated, how you are spoken to, etc. A lot of people, especially close friends in my sorority, a Christian sorority, disagree with me. I understand why they do, but maybe a few examples will help people understand my conclusion. You go on a job interview; you and all of your friends and professors know that you are perfect for this job. Well, maybe the interviewer perceives something about you that isn't necessarily true and you don't get the job. Say there's a guy that you think it great, you see him around all the time and just get a good vibe. He's involved in the community, I mean, you think he's perfect. Its these kinds of guys that get voted into leadership positions around the world. But he beats his wife/girlfriend, whatever. You don't see that, you just see what you're given.
All of this makes me think that no one can ever make a fully informed decision. You are only given what you see. People can tell you whatever they want and you have no idea what to believe. How can people make any decisions without knowing what's real and what's just perception. So everyone takes their own perception as reality. Everyone lives in a different reality, and when people get crossed over in others' reality, that's when life gets difficult. Its pretty simple to live in your own world, believing what you want and acting on exactly that.
So I guess what I'm saying is that its hard to decipher perception from reality, so that's what it becomes. But when two people have the chance to compare their realities and things don't line up, who's been lied to?
